Hainan Enterprises Import 9,110.6 Tons of Coffee Beans and Products in 2025

On January 14, a shipment of green coffee beans from Indonesia arrived at the Hainan Free Trade Port after crossing the ocean. After processing on the island, these raw materials will be sold to domestic and international markets with enhanced quality.

The coffee industry has a long history in Hainan. Benefiting from the dual advantages of the Hainan Free Trade Port's processing value-added tax exemption and “zero tariff” policies, the coffee sector is now embracing new development opportunities. On one hand, enterprises importing green coffee beans are exempt from import tariffs, import value-added tax, and consumption tax, directly reducing raw material procurement costs and helping meet the production needs of local enterprises. On the other hand, locally processed and value-added imported green beans sold domestically qualify for tariff reductions, serving as a “golden key” for enterprises to enhance market competitiveness.

To assist enterprises with imports and address challenges such as large coffee bean volumes, short shelf life, and traceability difficulties, ensuring immediate access to all preferential policies, Yangpu Customs under Haikou Customs continuously optimizes customs supervision models, implementing “on-demand inspection” for imported green coffee beans to create a seamless experience with smooth processes and rapid speed for enterprises. Leveraging Hainan's “Single Window” system, the customs clearance efficiency for imported coffee beans and products in Hainan significantly exceeds the national average.

According to Haikou Customs statistics, in 2025, Hainan enterprises imported 9,110.6 tons of coffee beans and products worth 480 million yuan, representing increases of 5.6 times and 8.3 times year-on-year, respectively. Major import sources included 15 Belt and Road partner countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Colombia. Exports of coffee beans and products reached 169.5 tons with a value of 12.642 million yuan, increasing by 51.9% and 49.6% respectively. These exports included not only dark-roasted coffee beans and ground coffee with Italian and American flavors but also Hainan specialty products like coconut milk coffee. Export markets encompassed 17 countries and regions, including Malaysia, Indonesia, the United States, and Australia.

Moving forward, Haikou Customs will continue collaborating with local governments to leverage the policy advantages of the free trade port. This includes encouraging enterprises to broaden import channels and expand production capacity, supporting the development of refined coffee processing products and high-end offerings, and facilitating the transition from basic agricultural products to high-value-added commodities.
